Frequently Asked Questions

  • I provide comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to school districts and families seeking private testing. A typical psychoeducational evaluation may consider academic skills, cognitive functioning, attention, behavior, and social-emotional needs.

  • A psychoeducational evaluation provides a comprehensive picture of how a person learns best, and is focused on school-based needs. A psychoeducational evaluation can help determine if a disability exists within the school setting, recognized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and what supports, services, and/or accommodations might help them succeed.

A neuropsychological evaluation typically looks closely at how the brain itself is working from a medical or clinical focus, with recommendations that may extend beyond school settings.

  • Psychoeducational evaluations are appropriate whenever there is a question about a student’s learning or behavior that is impacting a student’s progress or performance in school, or to provide an update on previously conducted evaluations to understand current needs and supports. Colleges and other postsecondary settings may request updated evaluations to support accommodations or services in their settings.

I work with students in Kindergarten through Transition (age 22). My background includes over a decade of experience evaluating students with Autism, ADHD, learning differences, twice-exceptional profiles, and behavioral and complex needs in Kindergarten through Transition settings.

  • Most evaluations take 2-4 weeks from intake to final report, depending on the complexity and scheduling availability. If school-based observations are necessary, the results may take slightly longer due to scheduling with the school.

Evaluations initiated by school districts can take up to 60 school days, as permitted by law. School-based evaluations must be provided free of charge if suspicion of a disability exists. Therefore, some families choose to secure private psychoeducational evaluations to reduce wait times or to provide another opinion.

  • Evaluations are tailored to the specific referral question(s). However, a typical evaluation could include:

    • Executive functioning and behavior measures

    • Record Review

    • Comprehensive written report with recommendations

    • Feedback meeting with recommendations

    • Support with implementing recommendations, including accommodations (school or college)

Depending on your needs, I can assist you to identify and apply for suitable colleges, obtain documentation for accommodations requests, develop a plan to secure necessary accommodations, and support with executive functioning or advocacy needs through your first year of college or beyond. Services include:

    • Basic College-search and accommodation planning: $1000

    • Comprehensive college-search, application, accommodation, and funding guidance: $3000

    • Additional services available on request (e.g., executive functioning support)

  • School-based evaluations are conducted in-person. For private pay evaluations, intakes, feedback sessions, and college planning service meetings are held virtually. Some evaluations can be conducted virtually, however, academic or cognitive testing must be conducted in person to ensure validity and reliability.
