About Alera

Erin Sharkey, Ed.S., CPA

Founder • School Psychologist • College Consultant

I am a nationally certified school psychologist (NCSP) and Special Education Administrator with over 13 years’ experience supporting students from pre-Kindergarten through post-high school Transition. Throughout my career, I have led and participated in more than 1000 IEP, Section 504, and Student Problem Solving Meetings, helping families and schools better understand how students learn, think, and thrive in school and beyond. Previously, I worked for over a decade as a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Accountant in the US and abroad.

Alera was created to provide students with disabilities a clear, supportive, expert-guided path through to college and beyond.

Known for my practical, compassionate approach, I partner with schools and families to identify students’ strengths, uncover learning challenges, and connect you with the right supports and educational environments. My work is grounded in both data and empathy, helping students move forward with confidence, clarity, and self-advocacy.

I reside in the Western suburbs of Chicago with my husband, energetic young daughter, and two rescue pups. For fun, I love traveling the world, baking, and playing paddle tennis.
